Spiritual sequel to 2008's criminally secretive Plumb, Hendiadys [That And This] is a collection of acoustic driven songs about love, longing, and re-awakening. An album that could only have become realized by slogging through the depths of social anxiety and intense interpersonal relationships, Caleb Orion has chiseled a sound that cuts through the darkness to offer something honest and lighthearted without losing its blunt grunge aesthetic.
Best heard through headphones.
This album was recorded in my bedroom on cold winter and hot summer nights. Everything was recorded, mixed, and mastered in this room, where if I whisper just right against the wall I can hear a threatening echo.
The instruments I used were a Martin Custom X-Series Acoustic, an Ibanez SD-GR Bass, a Sonor G10 Soprano Glockenspiel, a Metal Kazoo from Eden, New York, and Congas of unknown origin. My microphones were a Cobalt Co11 and a Shure SV100. I ran them all direct-in to M-Audio's Mbox2.
That sound you hear in Some Set Of Teeth is a live patch cable run through a pitch-shifting plug-in.
released 05 March 2011
The album cover was drawn by the eminent Evan Lord Martin. All songs written, recorded, and mastered by Caleb Orion Richards.
Dedicated to my father, Ernest Emery Richards.
